U16's win v Leeds
On Sunday 31st August, a squad of twelve Sedgefield players travelled to “The Edge” at Leeds University to complete against the U16 team from the City Of Leeds.
With a squad of mixed age, it was no easy task to take on Leeds in their home pool, but with some focus and tactical team rotation, it was very much “game on.”
By the end of the first quarter, Sedgefield had a lead of three goals, with Reka, Finley and Thomas on the score sheet and two vital penalty saves from goalkeeper Aston.
Quarter two saw the teams more evenly matched and some rotation, with Kara coming in as centre back and India taking on the wing position. Bram also came in as position two and Leo took on the role of driver. Again each team scored only one goal each, to take the half time score to 1-4 in Sedgefield’s favour. A further two strong penalty save from Aston and a second goal for Finley, kept the team very much in the running.
The third quarter saw strong shots from Charlie and Iesha, followed by a goal for Fynn, which took the scoreline to 2 -5 with just 8 minutes of the match left to play and Sedgefield going in with the upper momentum. A much tighter final quarter saw three goals for each team, with the home team putting in a strong performance. A well-earned goal for Harry and two more from Thomas clinched the win for Sedgefield, ending in a 5-8 victory and solid all-round team performance.
Most valuable players were chosen by the coaches at the end of the match and awarded to Reka for the opening goal and her work on position two and Aston for three valuable penalty saves and a strong performance.
