Sedgefield Water Polo Club sent young U15 team to compete in the National Age Group Tournament at the Alan Higgs Centre, Coventry, over the weekend of 9th & 10th December. This national tournament attracts teams from all over the country; each one aspiring to show they are the best team and walk away with the prestigious NAGS trophy for their Club.
The team, coached by Adam Woods and Carole Shaw, was placed in a very tough group and were up against Worthing and Beckenham in the qualifying round.
The first game was against Worthing, and despite a good team effort, the boys lost 11-3, with goals being scored by Thomas and Theo. The second game was against Beckenham and was a very close 3-2 loss, with both goals scored by Thomas. This ended the group round and the team progressed to the playoffs where their next game was against Grantham where the boys earned a very well deserved 5-3 win, with goals scored by Thomas, Tyler and Oli. The final game of the weekend was against Cheltenham, where unfortunately the boys lost 17-6, with goals scored by Thomas, Oli and Theo. Final position in the tournament was 10th.
Special recognition goes to our goalkeeper Aston who played the entire weekend after having disclocated his thumb at Talent Centre on the night before the tournament. Thank you also to our coaches and team managers, along with all the parents who made the long drive to Coventry for the weekend.
Than you also to team managers Imelda and Sarah for their help and support over the weekend.
