U14's loss v Rotherham

This was a competitive game with plenty of positives for our U14s, including strong debuts from Finley and Elowen. Sedgefield showed determination and fought hard throughout, staying within touching distance of Rotherham until the final quarter. The opening quarter ended level, and by the third quarter we trailed by just one goal - a sign of how close the contest was.

  • Quarter 1: Goals from India and Jasper gave Sedgefield a confident start, finishing the quarter level.
  • Quarter 2: Despite good effort, Rotherham struck three times unanswered, leaving us 5–2 down at half time.
  • Quarter 3: A strong response saw Fynn score from a penalty, with Leo and Harry also finding the net to close the gap to just one goal.
  • Quarter 4: Rotherham finished strongly, adding several goals to pull away, before Fynn grabbed a late strike in the final 40 seconds to round off the scoring.

  • MVP Award: Kara - outstanding at centre back, showing composure, strength, and continuing improvement.
  • Debut Standouts: Finley and Elowen both impressed in their first games with great energy and commitment.
  • Early Impact: India and Jasper set the tone with first-quarter goals.
  • Scorers: India, Jasper, Fynn (2), Leo, and Harry.
  • Opposition Threat: Freddie Blore proved hard to stop, scoring 7 of Rotherham’s 10 goals.

Coach Comments

“I’m really proud of the way we battled today. We started strongly, were level after the first quarter, and only one goal behind by the third quarter. The players showed great spirit in the third quarter, with Fynn’s penalty and goals from Leo and Harry pulling us back into the game. Rotherham finished strongly, but Fynn’s late strike showed we never gave up. We still need to improve on getting back in defence, as that cost us goals, and we found it tough scoring into the larger shallow-end goal. Kara fully deserved her MVP award, and it was brilliant to see Finley and Elowen making their debuts. Plenty of positives to take into our next fixture.”
