What an exciting weekend down at the Alan Higgs centre, Coventry for the Swim England U15 Female National Age Group Competition.
Our girls, Arwen, Indie and Kara were able to compete in this tournament with the help of our sister team, Rotherham.
The girls are very familiar with their fellow teammates down at the Yorkshire team as they train every 2 weeks with the girls at the Swim England Talent Centre.. For this competition, Matt Birch was the Head Coach with our Assistant Coach Sarah Gregory and Clare Henry as Team Manager.
First match was against Worthing. Final Score 15-3 WIN. 2 goals from Indie and 1 from Arwen. 1 Exclusion for Kara.
Second match against West London Penguin was a tough game. Final score 6-5 LOSS. 2 goals from Indie and 1 Exclusion for Kara. We were so close. Highlight of the match was preventing their top scorer no.10 from scoring at all.
We met our third opponents, Coventry. Final Score: 2-20 WIN. 1 goal from Indie, 2 goals from Arwen, 2 goals from Kara and an exclusion each for Indie and Kara.
Our last match was against West Edinburgh and was full of exclusions, cards and goals from Rotherham. Final Score: 9-6 WIN. 3 exclusions from India, 2 exclusions for Kara and 1 for Arwen. 3 goals for India.
Overall we won 4 out of 5 games and came 5th in the competition. Looking at the way the tournament had been setup it did not give teams that placed second in their table to be able to have a chance of getting into a top 4 position overall. Kara fought strikingly hard in CB position. Arwen made some amazing ball steals and Indias long shot goals in the top bins were impressive.
For our parents, it was a great experience to watch our girls succeed at such a high level. The hours of driving them to training at Sedgefield, distance and time spent to the NE and Talent Centre sessions finally pays off. To say that our children placed 5th nationally is a fantastic achievement and we should all be proud of our athletes at Sedgefield.
