MANUP TOURNAMENT
Sedgefield Water Polo Club sent a young men’s team to compete at the ManUp Festival in Salford Quays, Manchester on Saturday 10th August. The smaller outdoor pitch and slightly different rules made the games more fun, exciting and fast paced with lots more opportunity to score goals. Thankfully, unlike previous years, the weather was on our side this year and the sun was shining.
The team started with their first game of the day against Hallam, unfortunately narrowly losing with a final score of 7-9. This was followed by another tightly contested game against the Army, losing just 4-6. Despite two losses by the halfway point of the tournament, this did not deter the team and they fought hard against Cathal Brugha, winning with a fantastic 8-4 scoreline. After this win, the men’s final game was against Notts Old Boys, who were much stronger and the game finished with a 5-10 loss.
The tournament was always going to be a tough one for the young team but their fighting spirit and determination shone through, more so because they participated as a team of just six, without a designated goalkeeper, and each having to take turns to rotate which reflects the team spirit amongst the group.
Thanks to the parents who travelled to Manchester to support the boys.
