Tough weekend for our BWPL men

Sedgefield’s first game of the weekend was against Watford; a team who also lost their opening 2 games of the season. Sedgefield knew if we were to have a good chance of qualifying for Super 5s it was a game we needed to win. It was an incredibly tight game all the way through, as Sedgefield found themselves ahead after the first quarter and behind after the second. The game was level after the third quarter and with around 10 seconds left on the clock at the end of the fourth quarter, Watford leveled once again with the score at 18-18. Standout performances from Sedgefield came from Ben Alderson, Connor Keeble and John Pratt.

As the game finished level penalties were up next to decide a winner. Sedgefield looked to be in a strong position when Watford missed their first two penalties and Sedgefield scored their first however, after a long shootout that went well into sudden death, Watford came out on top.

Sedgefield returned on the Sunday for a game against Welsh Wanderers. This game was really do or die for their fading chances of Super 5s. Again it was an incredibly tight game with Welsh finding themselves ahead after the first quarter and at half time. However a fantastic, 5-2, third quarter from Sedgefield meant we found ourselves ahead going into the last quarter. Unfortunately Welsh rallied once again and their keeper made some brilliant saves and the game ended 13-10 to Welsh Wanderers.

This weekend delivered two more games in Division 1 for Sedgefield in which they were ultra competitive once again and showed they deserved their place at the top level, however fine margins once again mean we came away with just a singular point from the Watford penalty defeat.

Sedgefield now travel to Gloucester in December for a festive 3 game weekend, in which we will be looking to bounce back and hopefully get some points on the board.
